My thanks to all of you who answered my Email. I don't think I will have a problem finding good places to shop. The winner of grocery stores is Kroger. Five people recommended Kroger, Three people recommended Whole Foods, Two for Central Market, Two for Natural Kitchen, Kingwood, TX, and one for Walmart.

1. "I don't live in Houston, but visited there last year and found a Whole Foods. Don't know how many stores they have, but their Whole Foods Bakery Gluten-Free bread is wonderful."

2. I know there are Whole Foods Market stores in Houston, which is not too far from Tomball. There you can get their brand of gluten fre breads, muffoms, pie crusts, brownies and cookies. Some of their stores also carry Glutina brand Fiber bread, which is my fav. Just click on the link http://www.wholefooddsmarket.com/stores/StoreList.php."

3. "I'm sure by this time they will have Udi's bread in some of the stores. I know our Central Market here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area carry it. It will be located in the freezer section at the store but when we thaw it out it can remain on the cabinet for several days. Stays fresh and soft."

4. "We live in The Woodlands which is fairly close to Tomball. For restaurants we have a few that work well. On the higher end, there is a PFChangs, Macaroni Grill, Rockfish and Tommy Bahamas (all of which have GF menus). I had two little taster salads and the scallops as well as a crustless pineapple cheesecake. All excellent!

We also have a nice restaurant called Jaspers. They do not have a GF menu but are very accommodating. Their general manager's name is Shawn. He makes me fried calamari using virgin oil and corn/tapioca flour. It is fab! But only Shawn can do it.

On the med/less expensive end I would recommend Berryhill Tamales (no GF menu but everything is fresh so they know their ingredients well) Also I get the tuna entree at Goose's Acre (cool Irish pub and restaurant) that is safe and very tasty."

5 I"I wrote Walmart's corporate headquarters requesting a section for GF products. I mentioned that I had shopped at Fry's in Arizona and Krogers in Texas. Both had sections for special diets. Guess what? My Walmart now has a large section of GF foods including brown rice bread. I've found that white rice bread at Whole Foods crumbles easily. Brown rice bread holds its shape. "

6. My 13 year old loves Z's GF pizza. www.zpizza.com."

7. [log in to unmask] suggested the local celiac group. I followed their suggestion and was able to get a list from them http://www.houstonceliacs.org.

My nephew and his family, who do not need GF food, eat at Babins frequently and they love it. There is one near where they live in Tomball, so I will certainly try that.
