Mini baby bel cheeses in the the red waxy-coating are gluten-free to the
best of the company's knowledge. See response below and pls. refer to
http://www.laughingcow.com/lc/lc.nsf/CustomerServiceL2-FAQs
The technical director from quality control assured me by phone that the
yeast and culture is dairy-derived; no gluten is used. She was familiar
with celiac disease. I asked her for some advice on researching cheeses
that may contain gluten.
Pls. verify any information given. She said to be careful about
"soft-ripened cheeses" which might contain gluten such as brie and camenbert
since the top of the skin in these type of cheeses may be flavored with a
culture which has contact with gluten. She also said that gluten-free
cheeses would often be pasteurized, fresh, or cream cheeses but some times
may contain traces of gluten so that confirmation from the manufacturer is
still required to assure these are gluten-free.

>Up to our knowledge, our mini Babybel is gluten free.
>The department producing the mini Babybel is completely separate and the
>only ingredients in it are: pasteurized milk, microbiological enzyme
>(derivated from a dairy yeast), cultures and salt.

>There is no possibilite of cross contamination with ingredient containing
>gluten.
>We actually have only one ingredient (salad dressing) that contains traces
>of gluten (mustard flavor). The slad dressing is used in our pimiento
>cheese spread.
>
>We do not store at our plant any wheat, rye, barley or oats.
