There have been posts now and then relating peoples lab tests. I want
to mention what tests are supposed to be called and encourage everyone
to use full names for the tests.

The tests that are done for Celiac antibodies are

IgA anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (IgA anti-TTG)
IgA anti-Gliadin
IgG anti-Gliadin
IgA anti-Endomysial
Total IgA

A problem arises when someone talks about an IgA. Often there is a
confusion between total IgA, which is a measure of the total amount of
IgA class antibody in the circulation, and IgA anti-gliadin, which is a
measure of the amount of IgA class antibody reactive with Gliadin.
These are very different things.

Steve Holland, M.D.
