I asked the list for recommendations for open-minded autoimmune specialists in the Philadelphia area to help my friend who is experiencing sudden onset of a range of symptoms.

One respondent recommended Dr. L Bernardo Menajousky of Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.

Another respondent recommended his internal medicine physician, Dr. Adam Elfant at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J.

One respondent recommended seeking initial help from a chiropractor, indicating that she has had good results, both in diagnosis and treatment for similar symptoms. She had previously been skeptical about seeking help from a chiropractor, but has found the care excellent. She also stressed the importance of remaining well hydrated and getting some exercise.

Several respondents indicated familiarity with these particular symptoms as reactions to gluten ingestion and suggested testing for celiac disease.

One respondent finally received an accurate diagnosis of her symptoms from a rheumatologist who happened also to be familiar with celiac disease (apparently unlike the 3 ortho doctors she had seen previously).

One respondent recommended a liver workup.

I will also summarize any further responses that come in.

Thanks to all respondents for the sound advice!

Mary Ann
