Hi there,

I received 9 responses to my question, and all were quite
different. I also received a couple that told me to "read the label"
which I took to be extremely insulting to my intelligence. I think that
the question I asked pretty much summed up the fact that the information
I was searching for was not on the product, or I would have read it
instead of asking the list. I have no use for wasting my own time, never
mind anyone else's. I find this list to be an incredibly wonderful
source of information, from an intelligent group of people with so much
(unfortunately) in common. I sometimes wonder, however, why some
people answer listmembers posts if they don't have anything nice or
productive to say. But for those of you who do have good and useful
things to say, I thank you. :)

I should also make a note that the bottles of China Lily soy sauce I
have at home also do not have manufacturer contact information, or I
would have used that first. (AFTER reading the ingredients, or course)
;)

Here are the responses to my question:
***
I believe that China Lily Soy Sauce does contain gluten.
I use VH SOYA which is made in Canada by VH FOODS, Laval Quebec H7E
4P2.
***
The only stupid question is the one unasked.

I've never heard of this soy sauce. Since most soy sauce contains
wheat, I would imagine this one does too. Is there any manufacturer
contact info on the bottle?
***
Most soy sauces are made from wheat. "Soy sauce" made using soy beans
and the traditional fermentation process is usually referred to as
Tamari. I have had no reaction to Sanji Tamari sauce though I am not
sure if the source of the alcohol (added to preserve freshness) is corn
or other grains. Most whole food stores do carry traditionally brewed
Tamari. I have not seen it in our large supermarkets.
***
Try reading the label - it should say (I'm assuming the label is in
English)if it made with wheat or not
***
It's important to say where you're from with a question like this
because it may be different depending on what side of the border you
live. The ingredients are not always the same on both sides of the
border. Sorry I can't help you for sure re China Lily, but I believe I
read that it is gf. Good luck.
***
I think....I read that La Choy soy sauce is gf Good luck!
***
Read the label

Sherry
Most soy sauce is made from wheat so if it isn't on your list don't
touch it!
***
Wheat is one of the main ingredients in soy sauce. The only wheat-free
brand I know in Northern California is Tamari.

Thanks, and have a great day!
