Greetings,

I have been reading these posts for several weeks hoping
to gain some insight into my 5 yr old's ongoing battle with
diarrhea. We have been eliminating things from her diet
and have found all fruit (except apples and bananas), chocolate,
high fiber cereals (Complete Bran, Shredded Wheat etc.) cause it.
Recently, we put popcorn on the list. About two months ago she had a
very bad week. Over the weekend she had fritos, nachos, corn
enchilada casserole and grits (Dad was in charge over the weekend
so they had "fun food" while mom was gone, bless his heart.)

After returning I immediately noted the common denominator of corn.
We put her on a totally corn free diet (as difficult as a gluten
free diet). Because she wouldn't eat any of the corn free bread
products we inadvertantly put her on an almost gluten free diet.
Lo and behold the diarrhea cleared up over two weeks. Then Dad bought
her some of her own special "grits": cream of barley. Boom!
Diarrhea again.

We will be doing some testing soon (blood work and stool stuff) but
the appointment isn't for awhile. In the mean time I began
reintroducing gluten containing products to see if it was just my
imagination. But it seems that she only reacts to the
high fiber things. She does not react to Cheerios or regular bread.
In essence she does not react to extremely processed foods.

My question: Do any of you who are celiacs react to just fiber? Are
there people who just can't eat fiber? I did recently find out that
a cousin has a child who cannot eat wheat or dairy products.

Any help you may be able to shed on this confusing issue would be
appreciated greatly.

Thank you, Robin
