Dear Listmembers,

I want to thank everyone for their wonderful responses to my plea for advice
about my daughter and her "learning style" problems. I got many e mails
that said they thought that trying other methods first was advisable to
jumping in and putting her on medication. I got some responses that said
that medication worked for them or their children and that it made an
amazing difference in the quality of their lives. I also got responses from
some who tried medication and said it was a disaster.

We have decided to remove the offending foods from her diet (dairy and food
coloring) and to hire a learning specialist to work with her to teach her
strategies to work around her auditory processing filtration problems and to
teach her and her teacher to adapt the lessons to her learning style. After
just two weeks of being off the offending foods and the changes in her
school environment, there has been improvement already noted. I have also
noted changes in her emotional behavior as well at home. I feel that she
will be fine with these accommodations and that medication will be
unnecessary. I don't know what will happen when she is in Jr. High at a
public school, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. Thanks for
your help and support.

Warmly,

Bev Wahl
