Somebody asked if I have been tested for artificial colors.

< I need to follow up on this as I have never heard of this before. I rarely eat anything with artificial colors however, both before and after going GF.>

One person suggestion going to a Kinesiologist because they test you for foods and pollens. Other intolerances could include milk, chocolate, sugar or the way things are prepared.

<I am totally open to alternative care, and think for those like me they are much more caring than medical doctors, since I have yet to find a medical doctor that my HMO pays for that believes that what you put in your mouth affects your health. I am not talking about standard dieting/weight loss issues here, but I am speaking of correlations of things like digestive problems, skin conditions etc. It turns out that my chiropractor who I go to for an old work-comp back injury is a specialist in Kinesiology, but admittedly he knows little to nothing about CD and cannot treat me anyway due to legal issues. He said that HMO doctors never allow patients to be treated by him.>

Regarding keifer I received a couple of comments below:

“I experienced this rash. It looked like I had put an iron on my face.

I have two theories for my face.

1. It was the gluten clearing out of my dermal layer

2. It was triggered by the fish oil capsules I was taking.

If you are clearing it will finally get better, but will get a lot

worse first. The kefir may be helping you to clear.”

<This is exactly what my intuition is telling me about my situation, and my pattern looks much like an iron, where the point would be on the middle of my nose. However, on the nose itself, there is no rash.>

Or, it may be a fungal infection. A topical antifungal cream may help.”

<I have been prescribed Elidel. It is working, but has not cleared the rash completely and the tube is almost gone.>

“If it is the Kefir it will slowly resolve over a week after you stop

taking the kefir.”

<It has been longer than a week since I have stopped keifer, and I am still experiencing problems.>

“Keifer could be cleaning the body and ridding it of poisons. Maybe not, but it is a theory.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------“Keifer is dairy- stay away from cow’s milk dairy”

“Check diet. Products to question are distilled vinegar, canola oil and oats. Stay away from cow’s milk products.”

“Are you taking any new medication that can cause sun sensitivity - such as St. John's Wort, or (so many!) other herbs/drugs?”

<Not that I can think of, but I generally stay out of the sun as much as possible. I do have to walk a couple of blocks per day which is only partially shaded, so I am not sure if that is too much or not.>

Product suggestions were:

hydocortisone cream, Cetaphil lotion

Eucerin for eczema

Medicated menthol lotion may sooth the skin

Homeopathic remedy Rhus Tox 30c 2 pills under the tongue every 2 hours until you start to improve then stop.

1 of each with each meal, glutamine and probiotics

Perfect Food” by Garden of Life.

< It says on their website that it is made from green grasses and sprouted grains, so I would need to verify the GF status of this product myself. I do not believe wheat grass to be GF as I have had a terrible reaction to it in the past>

Do not use a generic hydrocortisone/iodoquinol by Glades Pharmaceuticals, they cannot guarantee GF status.
