Hi all,
I just re-read an article that might be of interest:
Freedman, Hugh "Celiac-associated autoimmune thyroid disease: A study
of 16 patients with overt hypothyroidism" CANADIAN JOURNAL OF GASTROENTEROLOGY
vol 9, no. 5, July/Aug 1995.
It says: "Greater small intestinal permeability in celiac disease patients
may permit excessive amounts of antigen to enter the circulation and cross-
react with other tissues, including the thyroid gland."
Then he attributes that to an article I don't have:
Counsell, et. al. "Celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disease" GUT 1994;
35:844-6
It might be reasonable to generalize to other autoimmune diseases from that.
(It might not too.)
Best Wishes,
Ron HOggan
