I just wanted to include my experience on this topic. Earlier this year I began noticing patches of rash on my hands. From the descriptions I read online, they seemed like the typical DH rash--small red blisters that turn into dry, flaky skin. I kept double-checking my food and couldn't find a culprit. When it greatly increased after I moved into my own apartment with my cat, I realized it was due to the cat food--I only occassionally feed the cats at my former residence. After figuring this out and beginning a practice of thoroughly washing my hands after feeding my cat, the rash has completely disappeared. I have never really looked at possible gluten in topical things (i.e. shampoo, lotion, etc.) in the past because I didn't have the rashes before, and I still don't since this cleansing practice has eliminated the recent problem. (However, since I have to avoid all plant extracts in topical products due to another medical issue, I doubt that any of them have gluten anyway.) I also
don't worry about petting my cat or him licking my skin, because it hasn't caused any noticable problems.
