1. Subscriptions to this List:

The Listowners are pleased to announce that the Celiac List now has 700
subscribers from 19 countries. The list has been in existence for a
little over 9 months

A special welcome is extended to the large group of recent subscribers
from Germany. Many of these additions were the result of a article in
the German Coeliac Society newsletter

2. System Outages:

Occasionally, a system outage will occur at St Johns. Everyone regrets
these interruptions in service. Actions are in progress to minimize the
impact upon subscribers.

Whenever you suspect an outage because no mail has been received
for the previous 24 hours, a system check can be performed as follows:

Send in the body of an email to: [log in to unmask]

        QUERY CELIAC

Based upon the response from St Johns, several things can be determined:

If no response is obtained: This indicates that St Johns is not
operational or that the communication link is down. If you are receiving
traffic from other Internet IDs, then the trouble is with St Johns and you
should await the return of your QUERY. There is no need to resubscribe
based upon the failure to obtain a reply.

If the query shows NOMAIL or not subscribed: This indicates that repeated
errors in sending messages to your ID, resulted in a stoppage of mail by
Mike Jones or the automatic removal of your ID by the system. Therefore,
you need to resume mail delivery or resubscribe as shown in the Welcome
message.

IDs that end with .com (Prodigy, AOL, etc.) may experience slower recovery
after St Johns is returned to an operational status, due to the high volume
(around 104,000) of traffic that is transmitted. This delay could be up to
four hours.

Please do not send a message to the whole Celiac list wondering if the
system is down. Your post will probably reach 700 people, many of whom have
to pay for their email by its quantity. When all else fails, just send a
message to Mike Jones ([log in to unmask]) and ask if the system is
operational.

3. Information Sheets:

Two new fact sheets have been added.

CELIAC BLOODTST is a description of the special blood tests used for screening
undiagnosed celiacs, determining the timing of a gluten challenge, or
compliance on a gluten free diet.

CELIAC EDIGEST is a description of the features available in the specially
edited digest of daily messages.

To obtain either message, send to [log in to unmask]

        GET CELIAC BLOODTST
        GET CELIAC EDIGEST

3. Name Change in File Package:

The name for the package of related files about gluten intolerance in
Autism has been changed to CEL-AUT PACKAGE. To retrieve these files,
send an email to [log in to unmask] with the command

        GET CEL-AUT PACKAGE

4. Mistakes in Message Postings:

If you accidently post a message to the 700 Listmembers, please
do not compond the mistake by sending a "I am sorry message" to the List.

For the Listowners,

Michael Jones ([log in to unmask])
