Dear List Mates,

Dr. Alessio Fasano is the author of a beautifully written, and very
readable, article in the August issue of Scientific American. The article
speaks to the history and cause of celiac disease as well as identifying
"treatment ideas." The illustrations are interestingly prepared, and
visuslly describe difficult concepts. Perhaps one of the most charming
personal revelations that Dr. Fasano presents is the chance factor that
transformed his career from a cholera fighter to an expert that discovered
one of the deeper secrets of human (perhaps mamalian) intetinal plumbing.

But by its nature, Scientific American is certainly much more geeky than,
say, People Magazine, so this article is probably not for everyone. But if
you are not a regular Scientific American subscriber and decide to buy the
magazine on the news stand, you will also be treated finding out what did
happen to the Neandertals and why did they disappeared (maybe). The magazine
is really easy to find this month. It has an alarming magenta cover with a
neandertal skull superimposed over an image of Charles Darwin.

Happy reading,

Vic-Sunnyvale, CA
