Dear Listserve,

We want to thank you for your support and clear up any confusion. First,
the Pamela's cookies under scrutiny are only being sold in Canada. This
does not affect the USA product.

August 23, 2001

Dear Valued Customer,

A Class 1 recall for two international packaged flavors of Pamela's
Cookies- Butter Shortbread (150g) with the code date of January 4, 2002
and the Ginger Cookies (150g) with a code date of January 4, 2002, ONLY
was begun today. However, we believe the Canadian Food Inspection Agency
(CFIA) press release misleads the reader by implying the recall was a
forced recall of the entire line. With the exception of the two above
cookies, the rest of the line is being voluntarily recalled in the
interest of consumer confidence. The CFIA claims to have found traces of
gluten in these two cookies with those code dates. This testing was not
as a result of any complaints regarding Pamela's Cookies. However,
Pamela's has also run tests by an independent laboratory, whom CFIA has
acknowledged as very reputable, and has shown our products to have below
detectable levels of gluten. Regardless, so that our customers can
maintain confidence in our products, Pamela's has decided to voluntarily
recall ALL of the international pre-packaged Pamela's Cookies (150g)
from Canada. There has been no illness associated with this recall.

We have evaluated our long-standing strict quality controls and are
working closely with the CFIA to make sure that all Canadian regulations
are adhered to. Pamela's line of wheat-free and gluten-free products
have always been produced with great care. In our 13 years of producing
our products, we have built a brand that people have come to trust and
depend on. Please be assured that Pamela's does not use any wheat, or
ingredients containing wheat or gluten in any of our Canadian products.
Strict quality controls are in place and we continue to randomly test
all of our products and raw ingredients for gluten contamination.
Pamela's will continue to produce the highest quality products utilizing
the latest quality control procedures available.

It is our every intention to take whatever steps necessary by having
this voluntary recall to allow our customers to maintain the confidence
and support they have given us through the years. We hope to have
Pamela's Products back on the Canadian shelves quickly.

Very Sincerely Yours,
Pamela Giusto-Sorrells
President
