This was sent to me by Debbi McKay in England, regarding my post about
the possible upcoming celiac treatment/cure. She asked me to post it to
the list for her.

I'm in England and just saw a BBTV programme about a cure being
developed here too - the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Oxford is
doing research and have discovered the fragment in gluten which triggers
the immune reaction. The team are hopeful they will be able to develop
a monthly vaccine in the next year or two. Good news eh?

The BBC website is http://www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog and should be available
for the next few days, look at the coeliac story (note the different
spelling we have in england for coeliac) Could you post this on the
list? I haven't worked out yet how to do it.

Thanks
Debbi in England

I haven't yet checked it out, just received the message, but thought I
would send it along, as she asked :) My only skepticism is what they
mean by "vaccine". I'm one of those wacky moms who after MUCH research
has concluded that their child (our family's celiac is my son, almost 3
yrs) is worse off after vaccination (read: autistic and asthmatic, GI
troubles have worsened) than before and who don't want to tamper with
the immune system anymore. From reading the list it appears that there
are several articles out there, perhaps several different approaches
being tried? The one I had read appeared to be involving chemical
manipulation, much like taking Prozac for depression, only indicating
the regulation of Zonulin for celiac. The whole vaccine thing makes me
nervous. I would like any info that can be offered about the
celiac-autoimmune connection. Most of my research hours have been spent
on autism, not celiac and I need to catch up/balance my research.
Thanks for any help y'all can offer :)
