If you have a cell phone with Internet access, you already know that you can
use it to get online stock quotes, sports scores, weather reports, etc. I
have added a new feature to my online product database that allows you to
use this same mechanism to obtain product info. Using your cell phone, you
can key in a product code (i.e. bar code) and, if the product is in the
database, see a message that indicates whether the product is gluten-free or
not.

Currently, cell phones in the U.S. and Canada which support UP browser 3.0
and HDML are supported.

To access this free service, point your cell phone at:

http://wap.celiacdatabase.org

How you do this depends on your particular cellular provider and cell phone.
You may need to contact your cellular provider for assistance. Please note
the "wap" prefix. Do not use "www" on your cell phone.

As an example, I have a Qualcomm 860 cell phone and my cellular provider is
Verizon. To access my site, I did the following:

1) I accessed my Verizon account online with a normal PC-based browser.

2) I added a bookmark that pointed to http://wap.celiacdatabase.org and
named it "Celiac".

3) Now, when I access the Internet via my cell phone, there is a bookmark
called "Celiac".

4) When I select this bookmark on my phone, my phone is directed to my
celiac site.

5) I can then perform product queries.

Obviously, this procedure only works for Verizon customers and is just an
example. Your provider will probably have a different procedure.

I would be interested in receiving feedback from anyone who tries this. In
particular, I am very interested in knowing which phones work and which have
problems. I will be glad to answer any questions and help with any
problems.

Thanks,
Chuck Brandt
