Thank you to the many people who reponded to my request for quick information on these antibiotics.  A number of people said go to www.glutenfreedrugs.com.  I did, and I found the following:

Zithromax--liquid and caps GF
Augmentin--liquid and tabs GF
Biaxin--liquid and tabs GF

However, the medication we had was Zithromax in tablet form (Z pack).  The posts in the archives from this listserv were equivocal about Zithromax in tablet form; the 250 mg strength and the 600 mg strength may differ in GF status.  I took the plunge and gave my son the 250 mg strength of Zithromax tablet (Z pack) and he did not have a gluten reaction.  Several people who responded to my post from last night said they use Zithromax Z pack with no probelm.  But others were not convinced about the gf status of all the formulations of Zithromax.  Looks like I had better call Pfizer on Monday to clarify.  As for my son, the Zithromax worked right away, and he is better.  Diane
