Hi,

I have several packages of tapioca flour from Thailand, which I just
bought in an Asian market. Although I realize there might be cross-
contamination issues, I've been buying flour this way for years, and
have had no problems.

With this batch of flour, though, something is different. It has a sweet,
fruity smell, which I haven't noticed in tapioca flour before. I've opened
a few of the bags, and they all smell the same.

I'm wondering if this is a normal variation (say, made from slightly
overripe cassava, or just a different variety), or something to be
concerned about. Before noticing the strange odor, I used the flour to
make my favorite soda bread. It did smell and taste "off", but I blamed
that on some oth
er modifications I'd made to the recipe. I ended up
eating the bread anyway, with no apparent ill effects.

Any advice would be appreciated. (The flour itself was cheap, but I've
used it to make a huge batch of Four Flour Bean Mix, which I'd rather
not waste unless necessary.)

thanks,
Eleanor
