hi listmates,

i have read that there is a blood test that determines if you have the gene
for celiac, and that if this test is negative, it means you can never develop
celiac. is this true and can any lab that does the serum testing for celiac
also accomplish this genetic test?

my daughter(27 years old), who has been battling irritable bowel syndrome
since she was 5 years old, has had the celiac serum tests which came out
negative. it was suggested, since i, her mother, am gluten intolerant, that she be
retested every 5 years. would it not be wise to just get this gene test and
determine whether she is even a candidate for celiac?if that is negative, then she
would not need to be tested again for celiac, if i am understanding this
correctly.and if the gene test is positive, then she should continue with the 5
year routine of serum tests? 5 years ago she also had a biopsy which was negative.

her insurance covers quest labs. i read that prometheus labs does the gene
test. do you know if it must be done by prometheus?

i would really love to solve this mystery for her, while her doctor seems to
be satisfied with the irritable bowel diagnosis, i hate the idea that she
lives on immodium and stomach cramps.

thank you for your time.

marlene
