First of all, thanks everyone for the wonderful responses. It made me
think of several things that I hadn't thought of which could be causing
my itch bumps and rashes, but mostly it helped me feel a lot better.
Possible causes mentioned and helpful solutions::
1)Food allergies, especially since it started on my lip (keep a food
diary along with symptoms, some said the skin prick tests for food
allergies weren't that accurate, others said they could never have
figured out what they were allergic to without being tested; think
carefully about what you might have ingested -not just food but drinks,
medicines, makeup ,esp lipstick, just before the symptoms started. For
one person, the symptoms usually start within 30-60 minutes of eating a
food - sometimes it is less than 5 minutes; rash can last up to 3 weeks;
prescription antihistamine Zyrtec and the drug Zantac are very effective
for skin symptoms from food allergies although one person said Zyrtec was
only gluten free in the liquid form; Kefir, a natural alternative to
expensive probiotics capsules & stomach acid replacement (like Thorne
Bio-Gest) prevent allergy flareups . Possible food allergies included
corn (It is so prevalent in American food, you just don't realize where
you are getting it. It is in ingredients like:high-fructose corn syrup,
citric acid, dextrose, glucose, corn starch,starch, caramel color,
artificial sweeteners, diet coke),fish, shellfish, nuts, peanuts, milk
products, soy, eggs, citrus and about 100 other ones You may start to
have symptoms after a bad bout of diarrhea -the inflammation of the small
intestine lets food proteins get into your blood stream where they are
recognized as foreign and your body makes antibodies - which sets you up
to react the next time.)
2)Any medication or new vitamins (see your doctor right away and find
out. It this is an allergic reaction the next exposure could be
worse);3)Other allergies (laundry soap, cosmetics--Most have gluten,
corn, mica, a mined mineral; some types of Bonnie Bell are supposed to be
gluten fee;Ecco Bella eye shadow -gluten and corn free.lipstick (Bert’s
bees lipshines is gluten free;facial soup, shampoo, moisturizers, lotions
(use coconut oil from Spectrum, olive oil;4)Gluten (take the homeopathic
remedy VERATRUM ALB 30c, 2 pills under the tongue as needed, get it from
health food store for $5, recommended by MD;5)"serum sickness" from the
flu shot (Google :serum sickness" for more info. Now be glad you couldn't
get one);6)DH(see a dermatologist familiar with it, oral
medication,dapsone for treatment unless you're allergic to sulfa in
which case you take a topical ointment; staying away from salt helps);
7)hives (take Benadryl and put aloe on the rash); ; 8)dust mites,
9)shingles ;10)a bug problem; 11)a bad case of acne roseacea if you are
40 years old;
12)not eating nutritious enough meals - too much processed foods, not
taking vitamins; 13)cigarettes. Thanks very much again for the responses.
