Dear Listers,

I didn't explain what granuloma annulare is in my last posting.

It's a rash that often begins with a small ring of  purple spots, which are
angular, slightly raised,  and slightly itchy.  My case began, typicall,
with a circle that was about 3/4" in diameter composed of perhaps 7-8 spots.
  They have grown and spread so they are on both hands, the back of my arms,
the sides of my legs, and my back.  They are very noticeable on my hands,
but not so bad elsewhere.  In the sunlight, they are a pretty spectacular
purple.

The prognosis I got from my doctor is that it is self-limiting and will
clear up eventually.  But I've also read that it is a chronic condition in
people over 30.  Since it is considered an auto-immune problem, I'm
wondering if the fact that I got a major dose of gluten about a week or so
before this granuloma annulare began was the cause.
