Hello Listmates:
My doctor has ordered a barium swallow study for me, and I am concerned about
gluten in the barium I would be eating during the study. The hospital where I
went for the study looked at me like I was from Mars when I brought this up.
They actually had ME call the pharmaceutical co's, right then, while I'm
standing in my hospital gown waiting for the test. Neither EZ-EM or Bristol
Myers Squibb (the two sources of barium that hospital buys) could verify that
their barium products are gluten-free. The radiologist simply scoffed and
said, "Well, it should be OK." Don't you love it?
Any of you out there who have had barium studies? Do you know which company
supplied the barium and if there is a GF product available? The archives have
4 entries, but none has any info on sources of GF barium.
I am grateful for this List Serve every day. You're all so well-informed.
Many thanks,
Gina in Fort Collins, CO
