  There are specific HLA alleles associated with celiac disease. DQ2 is
found in 95% of people with celiac and DQ8 is found in the remaining
celiacs. These tests have a very high negative predictive value to rule
out celiac disease. In other words, if DQ2 and DQ8 come back negative it
is 99%sure that you do NOT have celiac disease. However, if one of these
alleles comes back positive it does not necessarily mean you have celiac
disease because approximately 30% of the general population also have
these alleles.
