There was a question about Celiac on "The Doctors" TV show today, June
16th. Not the best answer was given- but awareness is important. They
spent a few minutes on the topic and showed pictures of the villi. I
believe the original show aired February 10th. The 2 minute segment
was about 12-14 minutes into the show.

Quote from the show's website below:

Celiac disease is a digestive disorder that affects the small intestine.
People who suffer from celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, which is a
protein in wheat, rye and barley. “You can think of it as an allergy to
wheat,” Dr. Jim says.

If a person suffering from celiac disease is exposed to wheat or gluten, an
autoimmune reaction will occur and damage the lining of the intestine.
Symptoms include bloating, diarrhea, vomiting and weight loss. While a
gluten-free diet may be difficult to follow, The Doctors has a list of
healthy, gluten-free food recommendations!

*Recommended Gluten-Free Foods*
• Nuts
• Seeds
• Dried coconut
• Legumes (black beans, black-eyed peas, Garbanzo beans, kidney beans,
lentils, navy beans & pinto beans)
• Quinoa
• Sorghum
• Teff
• Amaranth
• Brown rice
• Millet flour
