My original message stated:

" I read with interest the recent posts on Dulcolax where the company said it contained gluten. I am scheduled for a routine colonoscopy and want to be prepared when I discuss the prep with the gastroenterologist's office. Does anyone have any information about any preps that are gluten free? Best would be quotes from messages or letters from the company, but the name of the product, the company, and their phone number would enable me to check with them if written confirmation is not available."

After sending the above message, I received the gastroenterologist's prescription for TriLyte in the mail and determined it was gluten free.

Summary from responses to my message to the Celiac List:

1. I've had two colonoscopies done here at Duke Hosp. and all that was required was to use Fleets Enemas which are okay. I previously had one done in Conn at a local hosp. and drank the "Go Lightly" drink which was also okay but more difficult to do.

2. The hospital where I work uses GoLytely for bowel prep- it is a clear liquid, which implies it is GF, but I am not sure of the GF status. It has 0.2%
systemic absorption, per the company. I can tell you that it is composed of polyethylene glycol/electrolytes, and is also called Colyte, Go-Evac, Golytely, MiraLax, Nulytely, PEG-3350 with Electolytes. GoLytely is manufactured by a company called Braintree. It is very effective stuff- so if you have to take it, expect that it will be a rough night, but when it is done, it is done!

3. Fleet Phospho-soda and Accu-Prep are both gluten free. See Frequently Asked Question #11. I took it for my colonoscopy without any problems or reactions http://www.phosphosoda.com/Cons/faq.asp

 4. I did my colonoscopy with Visicol which is a pill prep. The company said that they are gluten free. They have a website (Visicol.com) where you can get their phone number. The only problem with this prep is you have to take a lot of the pills and drink a lot of liquid with them but at least they don't taste bad like some liquid preps.

5. Colyte is gluten free. A script is needed. You get a gallon jug with powder stuff in it ...(only the powder no water) It then comes with flavor packets. There are four different flavors . The flavors are also gluten free , they aren't corn free. (if corn is an issue) .

6. I am colo-rectal cancer survivor, have colonoscopies every year. They always give me the nutely or go-litely jug with whatever flavor I want (except they don't want u to use a red color one). I am VERY sensitive, I am intolerant of corn and a lot of chemicals too. I don't know about the one you asked about, but I have not had a problem with the above ones. These are the huge jugs with the powder in it and then you reconstitute with H2O. I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THEM. I always call my pharmacy, not the drug company. They (Walgreens) can look up the contents and tell you, any pharmacy should be able to.
