Thanks for all of your responses. They were helpful. Here's a summary
of most of the main points:

1 - person thought Slow Fe perhaps contained wheat but wasn't
absolutely sure

17 - said Slow Fe is gluten free

1 - person gave the following additional information:

"I cannot help you with Slow Fe, however I hope you have also found
out ways to ensure you are absorbing as much as possible. Things like
taking it with something with vitamin C (ie drink a glass of orange
juice, eat cantaloupe, etc at the time you take the iron), take with
protein (plus are you getting enough through out the day so your body
can build the hemoglobin), don't take with alot of fiber, don't take
with calcium & other minerals.

You also need to ensure you are getting enough B12, folic acid and
other B vitamins as well as a decent Vit pill."

1 - person gave this additional information:

"Something that MDs don't know much about is the relationship
between adequate folate and Vit A levels in body and blood
cell making capacity. Eat lots of dark green leafy vegies for folate
and orange and dark green colored fruits and vegies for Vit A.
(also liver, milk, etc). "

1 - person suggested I try Iron Herbal Liquid supplement

1- person suggested:

"Celiacs usually have problems absorbing B vitamins, especially
Folic Acid. Without folic acid you cannot absorb enough iron to stop
your anemia. Usually 400 mcg per day will do it, don't take more than
800 without checking with your doc. Pregnant women
also have this problem often, and if they're very low it can lead to
spina bifida in the baby: that's why so

many foods now are fortified with folic acid, but the foods that are
fortified are not the ones we eat. They're mostly foods like
bread etc. "

1- person suggested being tested for hemochromatosis, which I already
have had done.

1- person suggested I try a source of iron from Freeda Vitamins @
www.freedavitamins.com

Again, I thank you for all of your help. I feel I'm on my way to better
health. Tammy
