SUMMARY FOR AMBIEN,LUNESTA,TRASODONE, et al

I wish to thank all you wonderful people for responding to my post (and others). I have included my original post with my questions below: I received several responses which addressed my question, and other responses with information related to my condition. So since we share so many of the same conditions I will also post those recommendations and comments.

Those who responded either had neuropathic pain of some sort, or had fibro. Many have sleep problems, and digestive issues.
Here are some of the responses:

For Fibro some people found Trazadone helpful.  It re mediated one persons Restless Legs immediately with no adverse effects.

A couple of people had adverse or uncomfortable effects from Trazadone, like flashing lights, headaches, hang-over and insomnia. They vowed not to take it again.

Ambien made one persons Fibro worse, but in general seems to be helpful for sleep.

One person reported that Triliptal and Topamax helped for their neuropathy.

Lunesta has a mixed review. Some slept well and other did not.  Some experienced neuro and fibro increase in symptoms and others lowered the dose and added other medications like Trasadone, Lexapro and Xanax and found relief.

The above are very small N of 1 and 2, so it would be helpful to have other send in more info so we can collect more data of bigger numbers.  It would be of interest to know if neuro and fibro people have different experience with these drugs than celiac or gluten intolerants without neuro or fibro, etc.

Anyway thanks -- I experienced some of the symptoms and some of the relief and it is good to know we are not alone!

Some other really good suggestions were to take Vitamin B12 in shot or oral form.  One such company suggested was Jarrow Methycobalamin Brand.  I  hope I spelled that right.  If you google it will come up.  It is recommended by someone on the list as a possible help for neuropathy andneuropathic pain.  Many people who have neuropathy are trying these B Vitamins.  Also Fish oil, Benfotimine, folate, lipoic acid, were suggested.

I also received some testimony about seeing alternative or integrative medicine specialists.  These are hard to find in my area, but I have found one.  And there are some in most major cities.  The names of these kinds of doctors would be homeopath, naturopath, or physical medicine (physiatrist). Look at American College for Advancement in Medicine - there is a web site.

Other links or names I found helpful or will look into are:

Dr. Hadjivassilious's articles about Neuropathy which can be found on www.theglutenfile.com.
www.glutenfreedrugs.com
www.diabetesupdates.com
www.bloodsugar101.com

Here are some book titles to investigate:

Digestive Wellness by Elizabeth Lipski
Enzymes for Autusm and other Neurological Conditions by Karen DeFelice.

Most importantly as others have said "Listen to your Body"! In that respect I am pursue an appointment with a physical medicine specialist, a natural path, and a homeopath.  I am completing MRI's never done.  I feel the need to get to the bottom of this. Most of all I feel the RIGHT to have my symptoms respected by doctors and my pain treated -- and there are many ways to try to treat pain so I have learned not to let any one doctor ignore it or not treat or provide some referral suggestions.

Thanks so much! I will forward other tips as I receive any that are new or shed light on what has already been covered.

Greetings,

I am having so much trouble with my neuropathy.  I have gluten and lactose intolerance.  Has anyone taken these meds and had there symptoms get worse??

I am concerned about a couple of inactive ingredients in the Ambien. One is Magnesium Stearate, Titanium Dioxide and Hydroxypropyl  Methylcellulose.

If anyone has any comments I would appreciate.  I am researching and trial and error with Lunesta and Trasodone.

My neuropathy continues to get so bad that I am on a liquid diet now, which helps keep it manageable.  So I am thinking or speculating that so many foods and ingredients (chemicals) are really setting off my symptoms.  I am strongly wondering if this is autoimmune...maybe from years of being gluten intolerant.

I am also looking for any recommendation for an alternative medical or integrated medical approach or some doc anywhere that knows about impact of food/chemical on whole body systems. I am willing to travel.

If any comments, I am happy to share, and happy to post or summarize, or continue conversation.

Thanks,
Denise
