The consensus on whether Brewer's Yeast is OK for celiacs is that it is
NOT. As one person put it: it's traditionally raised by feeding it on
barley malt, so it's absolutely a complete NO-NO for celiacs. Other
comments:
>> Absolutely not! Think malt. Think beer. Think absolutely riddled with
gluten. Years ago, I thought it was perfectly safe and had a nasty relapse.
One person said that it shouldn't contain gluten, but might have
traces.
Another suggested eating low-carb and thus avoiding having to regulate
blood sugar levels. And a home brewer said that her experience would
make her think that it would be full of malted barley and possibly
wheat.
Thanks to everyone for their help. Judy, Santa Cruz, CA
