It's almost worth making a visit to Rome specially to this enterprising GF bakery. Luis and his colleague who run it are so charming and helpful. NBYou can email them in advance in English.

It's a real continental type patisserie with specialist cakes. The savoury things - mini quiches were disappointing (pastry not right and dry filling), the cheesy biscuits/straws quite nice but the best things are the little cakes: tiny coloured profiteroles and something like a mini doughnut filled with 'custard'. Also the traditional very thin crunchy triangular Roman biscuits whose name I forget. They keep well too. The bread rolls are available fresh (made rolls for lunch for about 3 days) or longer life and easily heated...rather good. Altogether expensive but an absolute treat. They also supply food to some restaurants including the very trendy and well-known GLASS, which happened to be in the street I was staying in (delightful Trastevere). This is a worthwhile if costly experience (expect to pay e60)! The owner has very good English and CD awareness.

Actually some of the best and easiest GF food I had was in the VERY trad Hostaria del Moro (Tony's) nearby. Good awareness and huge portions, excellent fish. Otherwise I thought Rome was quite hard for coeliacs (bread, pizza is so good and so cheap, so ubiquitous*) at least from a UK perspective. You have to be prepared to pay for good food. Self-catering means you can also shop for lovely ingredients. GF items very much confined to pharmacists.
