The prospect of finding gluten free vitamins has always been troubling to me.
When I call the manufacturer I find that they often do not know how their own
suppliers process ingredients. Evan Hunt told me about Freeda Vitamins
(which his Celiac wife is just now trying for the first time), and I spoke in
detail with Dr. Zimmerman who assured me all their products are gluten and
casein free. Since so many firms "cop-out" by saying they cannot certify
that their suppliers are gluten-free, I thought I would post this copy of his
letter. (I have no relationship with this company, nor will I benefit from
their sales)

Dear Mr. Elkus:
...
Please rest assured of the following facts:

Freeda Vitamins manufactures all its own products in our own plant, which is
open to yourself as well as other professionals for inspection at any time.
We investigate all materials used in our production and are scrupulously
careful to avoid any gluten, as well as artifical colors, flavors, additives
or preservatives which often present a problem to sensitive individuals,
especially children.

Our plant is under the supervision of the Orthodox Union, which also checks
all incoming raw materials to ascertain their kosher status.

As a Ph.D in Science with special strenghts in Micro-Chemistry and
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, I am constantly applying my expertise to
guarantee that all formulas are free of the above mentioned objectionable
substances. I do not allow the use of "premixed blends" which are often used
in our industry, as it is virtually impossible to ascertain the composition
of such mixtures.

If you would like to send us the names of any physicians or clinics
specializing in the Celiac problem, it will be our pleasure to send them
appropriate literature.

Very truly yours

Philip W. Zimmerman, Ph.D.
President
