summary #2B - Here is what I have been doing to fight my candida
overgrowth :

The anti-candida program is composed of the following:
- a low-carb diet, probiotics, digestive enzymes, fiber, anti-fungals.

- one of the first things you can do to eliminate the yeast is to stop
feeding it; to do this you will need to significantly reduce or eliminate
sugar consumption; not only does candida multiply rapidly in the presence of
sugar, antifungal treatment depends heavily on this dietary change.

- the candida diet is similar to many of the popular low carbohydrate diets
in that carbs and sugars are restricted and the consumption of vegetables is
encouraged:

60% - Eat a variety of high fiber, low starch vegetables (choose steamed,
stir-fried, roasted or raw)
25% - Eat high protein foods (choose both animal and plant sources)
10% - Eat complex carbohydrates (choose whole grains whenever possible)
5% - Eat whole fresh, low carb fruits (limit to one serving per day)

- avoid eating protein and carbs at the same meal as this can cause
bloating - try veggies and carbs, or veggies and protein, but NOT protein
and carbs together

- remove all processed sugars and as many natural sugars from your diet as
possible; this includes glucose, sucrose, honey, maple syrup, corn syrup,
fruit juice, and everything else that's sweet, including high carb fruit
like bananas and mangoes.

- avoid starchy vegetables like potatoes

- remove as much white flour as you can; avoid white rice, white pastas, and
other simple refined carbohydrates.

- avoid foods that may contain fungus, molds or yeasts such as cheese,
yeast-raised bread, wine, beer, vinegar, and soy sauce.

- take probiotics with meals, and anti-fungals between meals (on an empty
stomach)

- the best anti-fungal is GSE (grapefruit seed extract) in a little squeeze
bottle - it tastes bitter so I dilute 15 drops in a big glass of water and
add a splash of lemon juice; you can also find a variety of anti-fungal
formulas or blends in capsule form; most are similar in composition and
include garlic, oil of oregano and caprylic acid. Note: I would caution that
anyone taking prescription drugs that have a negative interaction with
grapefuit juice, do not take GSE (grapefruit seed extract) without first
consulting a pharmacist or a physician.

- choose a "full spectrum" probiotic

- choose a probiotic with an enteric coating so it will reach your small
intestine before it dissolves (expensive)

- probiotics must be kept refrigerated so they are still "alive".

- choose a full-spectrum digestive enzyme; a low-priced, off-the-shelf
variety will do; take with every meal

- take pysillium and/or flax seed to clean the intestines and remove toxins

It seems to me there is no "one right way" to do a candida elimination
program or diet - there are many "shades of gray", unlike the GF diet where
it's either GF or it's not.

Janice.
