I hope I don't give anyone the impression that I'm angry with my doctors
for not suspecting celiac disease or gluten intolerance in me. I really
can't be angry with my doctors. They are doing their best to care for
me. I've never had diarrhea in my life, so I & no one else ever
suspected CD. Even when I ordered the gene test, I still thought the
possibility of CD was very remote. I am an RN, I know the limitations
medical professionals work under. Nursing schools & medical schools just
don't know the facts because they haven't been supplied the latest
information. They can only do what they are trained to do unless we or
someone else educates them differently. Abundant literature on gluten
intolerance for our medical professionals is just not out there! Our
practicing doctors most persistent source of information is medical
journal publications....... & most medical research for publication is
funded by pharmaceutical companies...... and none of them is going to
make money by researching a disease that's treated with a DIET! LOL!
Most docs & other health care professionals simply aren't trained to be
on the look out for celiac disease unless they see a child with chronic
foul smelling diarrhea or failure to thrive. But I'm optimistic that
times are a-changing, and the future is going to be brighter for our
descendants! If it hadn't been for a couple friends in a on-line
fibromyalgia support group suggesting the CD could be my problem, I would
never have looked into it and I would have continued to be plagued with
vague health problems for many years to come. I am grateful.
