I looked up the comment about certain preps can cause kidney damage and
found an

excellent article at the NY Times website about the risks to certain
categories of people

who use phosphate colonoscopy preps.  The article is available free if you
register.

I searched the nytimes.com with the keywords "laxative kidney damage".  I am
so 

grateful for the informed, helping people on this list.
