I asked Don Kasarda if he would comment on this article for the list. He
writes:

After looking at the web site, I would say no.

As far as we know, and I think it is a pretty safe bet despite my not
knowing of published studies, the gluten proteins are expressed only
in the grain. Presumably, these researchers are working with a
protein that protects wheat seedlings from frost and freezing
temperatures. At this stage of development, the seedlings would not
have headed out and so would have no developing wheat grains.
