A few days ago, someone on the list asked whether oats are gluten-free. I
contacted this very nice person off list, and she said out of 71 replies, 68
indicated that oats were *not* a problem for celiacs.

This is interesting because it contradicts most of the literature I was
handed, with my recent celiac diagnosis, by two doctors and a nutritionist.

Since I am outwardly asymptomatic (anemia, blood work and biopsy discovered
the condition), I wouldn't have an immediate severe reaction to oats if I
resumed eating them -- which I will do if the overwhelming consensus is that
oats are safe.

Unfortunately, the person who originally inquired cannot post a summary to
the List, as she deleted the replies she'd received.

If anyone who replied directly to her still has their reply (pro or con), I
would be very interested in reading them. Please send them directly to me
and I will summarize replies (anonymously) for the list.

Thanks much.
