            Because Jax Peters Lowell's  "Against the Grain" had
recommended D.H.'s frosting as gf and the book had a publication date of
1995, I decided to try D.H.'s toll free number 1-800-934-5294 to get an
update on their Duncan Hines Creamy Homestyle Frosting (Chocolate with
Real Chocolate Flavor) and Vanilla (with Real Vanilla Flavor) which I
had just purchased for my wife.
            The phone call went through quickly and the information was
looked up in a customer friendly way; she reported that since 1993
Duncan Hines frostings were gluten free.  Great!
            But, and this was my smile for the day, she said her listing
had something additional to be read.  It said that their mixes were not
gluten free.  (So much for Duncan Hines' notation on flour power.)
