DH patients,
I have two different ideas on dapsone usage from dermatologists. My son has
had DH for almost 2 years and has been on dapsone twice. He starts at 100
mgs/day and gradually tapers off of the prescription totally ( over months
of time). All the while she monitors him with frequent blood tests. As he
has graduated from college, we are looking for a dermatologist closer to
home. I spoke with a Derm. yesterday and she intimated that she keeps her
patients on dapsone permanently on a low dosage (after they clear up) and
has blood drawn every 6 months after that. My son does not have symptoms of
celiac disease other than his DH. I worry that if he is on dapsone all the
time that he could ingest gluten and we would never know. I feel that being
on dapsone all of the time will just disguise any m istakes and thus
eventual damage to his intestines. I would appreciate any professionals in
this area responding as well as DH patients and their opinions and
experiences.

Thanks
