A few weeks ago I posted a note about the GF status of french fries at
McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's restaurants. I got several
replies with additional information:

From Jill:

My daughter is a manager at Mc Donalds, and she does not recomend me
eating the fries or hasbrowns because they use the same "skimmer" in all
their fryers. So the may skim chicken nugget "floaties" out and then
use the same skimmer to skim the fries. And the avg. age of the workers
is 16 (in my area) so they are less then carefull.

From Susan in Ohio:

...I called every place we go to eat to get a list from them.
McDonald's was very quick to get me a list. He has eaten the big mac
sauce as recent as a couple of weeks ago because it is on their list as
being GF. I take his bread and get a big mac made on his bread. I told
a lady on the list that she could eat this and she posted that the sauce
had wheat in it. I went to my McDonald's here in Ohio and sure enough
she was right! I....got a call back from a lady at McDonald's that
confirmed the wheat in the sauce....I told her they needed to update
their list and....She told me that they are in the process of updating
it right now....My son didn't have a real bad reaction from eating it,
just a loose stool but over time who knows!....We all need to get an
updated list from them when it is done. The newest list which I called
to get just a couple of weeks ago is dated June 1996. I call every six
months to get updates on food.

From Vicki:

We need to all check each local Burger king as I know first hand the one
I buy from locally does not follow their corperate policy. I have often
ordered fries and received onion rings in my fry purchase....We have
tried to eat their fries but always have reactions so finally gave up!
Their fries are delicious but not worth the pain they inflict.

From Bev in Milwaukee:

One of the moms in our group has a simple solution for fries in the sit
down restaurants where everything is cooked in the same oil. If the
fries are g.f., she asked them if they will bake them in the oven in a
pie pan--just like everyone does w/ frozen fries at home. I had been
g.f. for 15+ years & never thought of that one.
