Dear all,

My proposal for a national, centralized free database of gluten-free
restaurants in North America was well-received. Many people thought it would
be extremely helpful to have one comprehensive list to go to, instead of
having to search around. Alice had a great idea to make it a wiki in the
model of wikipedia.org so that everyone can update the content and so that
everyone can print out the content and xerox it to their heart's content
without copyright violations.

As an initial step, I have created a wiki of links to lists of celiac-friendly
restaurants which were forwarded to me. I have put individual restaurants
in the discussion section. You can view it and edit it here:
http://www.wikicities.com/wiki/Celiac
Please add links for your own city and restaurants of note. I added as much
information as I have, but for copyright reasons, I can't paste in others'
posts which have gone out about specific cities.

This wiki is only an initial step; in the future, we can create a database
of entries which can search by geography or other characteristics.
For now, we have a centralized, national resource which can potentially
include all the content we need.

Although a for-profit company is developing a database of gf restaurants,
note that all submitted reviews become property of the company, so that
printing out and xeroxing large amounts of the material for a group violates
copyright, even if it was all material that you wrote yourself.

Janet
