I have had this fantasy of growing my own rice for a while now.  Has
anybody out there ever tried this?  Can you successfully grow dry rice in
the American midwest (I live in Illinois)?  Where might you obtain seeds?
 
Also, I have been wondering for a while:  Are brown and white rice
different species, or are they the same, but with a different milling
process?
