hi all,

hopefully someone will be able to give me some info about this.. or some
opinions anyway!

i have a 20 month old who has had some feeding problems so the introduction
to gluten has been somewhat delayed compared to a normal toddler.  anyway, he
has very INFREQUENT bowel movements.  left to his own devices, probably every
10-14 days.  he does not seem overly constipated, nor does he have diarrhea.
the infrequency of his bm's does concern me though.  i have spoken to one of
his peds, who suggested trying karo syrup to see if it could help to regulate
him somewhat.  i thought it was helping a little bit at first, but now we are
going on a week since he has gone again.  one of the things that concerns me
the most, is that when he does go, he really has a hard time going.  i mean
it takes him about 20 minutes, and he often throws up while trying to go.
what i find so alarming about this, is that then once he goes, he is not
really constipated. my definition of constipation was the hard pellet like
stools.... the ped suggested that infrequency is also constipation.   anyway,
we are going to try some mild laxatives/stool softeners to see if we can
regulate him to avoid further problems later on.  the ped mentioned that kids
like this tend to have veyr large bm's which can then lead to holding, potty
training problems, and later soiling.  you see my dilemma.  then i thougth
that i seem to remember reading something about constipation being a possible
factor with CD.. did i imagine this??  does anyone have any similar
experiences or thoughts?  we could take blood from him pretty easily.. he is
just an angel when it comes to stuff like htat, but i really don't want to
scope him.  anyone have any thoughts?  thanks so much in advance for any
