Dear List Mates,

This is definitely a top destination. I had several people e-mail me
just to say how jealous they were that we were going, and others told me
how much they had enjoyed the area in the past. I also received a number
of helpful replies about resources in the area (summarized below):

- If you're going by way of Idaho Falls, ID, the Fred Meyer has
Ener-G breads and GF cereal, cookies, pasta and pretzels. (Or at least
they used to when I was last there two years ago.)

- Just returned from trip to Jackson, and we found a good
restaurant with GF bakery items called something Planet? A local bar on
the square told us about it. It is couple blocks from the square. Be
careful as they have other bakery items with spelt flour....read and ask
carefully. Enjoy.

- We were just in Yellowstone in May . . . We were pleasantly
surprised to find that the chef's at each of the restaurants IN the park
(the whole park is owned by one corporation, including restaurants)
were VERY well aware of special diets and we ate gluten-free every day!
We did make sure to talk to the manager at each one, and they in turn
talked to the chef's and it was never a problem!

- In Jackson Hole, there is a health food store right off of
the main highway when you get into town---I'm sorry I can't remember
street or store names. But when you get onto the main drag where all
the highways meet up, there are all sorts of chain restaurants and
grocery stores, and it is in one of those strip mall type places more
towards the back that there is a health food grocery store FULL of lots
of great GF stuff. In fact, if you ask at the store----they can tell
you where the WONDERFUL brand new restaurant in the touristy part of
town a couple of blocks from the antler arches that will do
ANYTHING----even potstickers and dumplings----gluten free! It is
awesome food---totally fresh and totally homemade. In fact, we ordered
bison burgers and it came with big slices of bread. I freaked out and
told the owner "Um, we ordered the gluten free plate"---and she laughed
and said that the bread was homemade GF, her very own recipe---it was
heavenly!! So, no worries, Jackson AND Yellowstone are GF easy and
friendly!

- I just returned from Wyoming & the parks yesterday and this
is my report.

In Jackson you have two great grocery choices:
Albertson - which has a pretty good sized GF selection (better than my
local Los Angeles one)
Whole Grocer - like a small Whole Foods type of store. They had a whole
aisle called Gluten Free World, full of the regular GF national brands
and a few local GF companies including great cookies from the Jackson
Kickin Cookie Company.
We researched & talked to a Jackson eatery called Planet Palate which
said they do GF all the time. We never got there to try it out but they
sounded knowledgeable.

At the south end of Grand Teton there is a smaller (but larger than most
of the ones inside the two parks) grocery store at Moose Junction. It's
small but they did have Marys & Blue Diamond GF crackers as well as a
few other GF selections.
All the small grocery stores in the park have fresh fruit, meat, cheese,
milk and snacks I could eat.

I didn't need to bring as much food as I did. I could have bought
almost everything I needed in Jackson and supplemented at the small
stores in the parks. I was also surprised at how reasonably priced food
was, including inside the parks. I was pleasantly surprised at all I
could find to eat. I didn't eat out at all, which required organization
and a couple a coolers, but it was worth it to make sure I didn't get
sick.

Thanks to all for the great information! You all are the best resource I
have!
