A recent note described a disappointing shopping experience at Wegmans
supermarkets. As a long-term Wegmans customer and celiac, I feel it is
appropriate to come to their defense.

Wegmans is an outstanding, family owned supermarket chain that provides high
quality foods, a high level of customer service and will bend over backwards
to help customers with special diet needs.

Their web site, www.wegmans.com provides information on special diets. Their
page on celiac disease provides links to the major celiac organizations and
support groups in the areas they serve. On request, by email or phone, they
will provide extensive printed listings on the gluten status of their
"store-brand" offerings. Over the years, their specialists have always been
very responsive to my requests for information on the gluten status of
specific products. They have started a program of labeling their
"store-branded" gluten-free offerings with a green "G" symbol.

Wegmans, based in Rochester, NY with stores in NY, PA, NJ and MD deserves
credit for its progressive programs on special diets.

I have no financial interest in Wegmans, but wish I did.

Joel
