As a follow up to Deb Boutins response to Dianne Dufalts inquiry about
weight loss, my wife was fairly thin for her height, and has gained
since being diagnosed. Everyone has remarked how much healthier she
now looks, (and how poorly she looked prior!)

As far as the med community goes, she was "treated" by a male doctor
who did not recognize her symptoms for almost 6 months. His treatment
focused on her persistent anemia by prescribing massive doses of oral
iron (and liver and anything else you could think of short of eating
iron shavings). When she insisted that maybe something else was going
on, he suggested that it might be "in her head".

She was fortunate enough to seek a second opinion from another doctor
who just happened to have recognized and diagnosed CD in another of his
(female) patients recently. ( Since then he has diagnosed at least one
ot two others as well...both women).

CD is rare, which is part of the problem. There will always be some
doctors who are better or worse than others. Like Ms. Boutin said :
When in doubt, get another opinion!
