I understand that celiac disease is an autoimmune reaction to gluten. As a result, do we have a weakened immune system because of a long period of illness before diagnosis? Or do we have an overactive one? Should we be avoiding immune stimulants like flu shots and echinacea? Or should we be supporting the immune system?

I find I do not easily catch infections, but when I do, I am very slow to shake them off. I frequently feel "off colour" as if my immune system is fighting something, which does not develop. Any explanations would be very helpful.

Many thanks, Jane
