Hi all,

I found when I got home after eating my sushi lunch I was having a problem with something I ate. that is why I asked the list about the miso. Looks like that was the culprit. I do find at another restaurant I do not have any reaction. Here are the answers I got which leads me to believe it it the miso.
........................................................

We eat a lot of Japanese food and have found that
miso soup varies from
place to place.

miso soup varies from
place to place. If you ask your server (or
better yet, the chef) carefully,
they will be able to tell you if there is any soy
sauce in the broth or not.
True miso soup is made from soy beans with soy
tofu pieces in it and also
some seaweed; this type is gf. I have asked at
various restaurants and
found that some do put soy sauce (the kind with
wheat in it) in the broth;
also one restaurant here actually puts little
pieces of spaghetti(!!) in the
bottom of the bowl.

Miso soup: I never eat it at a restaurant. They usually add barley tomiso soup when it is manufactured. Whether you can buy miso soupmakings that are gluten free from health food stores, I don't know.Maybe someone else can tell you that........................................

I know it is often made with a barley starter(called something like koji?)of some kind.

that's it for now...

thanks for the responses...
