Thanks to all of you who responded to my question about once on GF diet for
a healing period, the body will again absorb nutrients, etc. I would like
to give my opinion (not to be summarized with responses since it is just my
opinion) that some get so concerned about not feeling good again and this is
sometimes confirmed by others who understand that to be true, that they
forget to smell the roses along the way and believe that they are not going
to live normal lives. Being 100% GF is a necessity and good results will
come. My hope is that all of us will return to a very normal and HAPPY LIFE
and that research will continue with a cure down the road in our lifetime.
We need to look toward the positive. Enjoy the upcoming week-end. Smell
the roses.

16 people agreed that if healed probably, we can absorb like anyone. Yea!!

2 said supplements are a part of his/her diet. Probably others do but
didn't mention it.

Several explained how much better they are absorbing by test results. One
had a bone density test and it had healed 8% in spinal area and 7% in hip
area. Another said the blood work is now normal. Another said tests show
she is absorbing iron now and didn't before.

3 agreed that if the damage is bad, it may not heal properly or make take a
lot longer.

1 person is having a breath test soon (ressearch and new methods keep
appearing!!)

1 person wrote that children heal quicker because they haven't had the
length of years/months, etc., in damage. She also reminded us that to heal
one must avoid gluten--not most of the time but ALL OF THE TIME. She also
said CSA/USA says about 60% respond to the GF diet, returning to good health
and living relatively normal lives. (Possibly many of the 40% left are not
being honest with the diet.--my comment)

1 person's opinion was that lots of proteins and minerals depend on enzymes
in the gut to be able to be transported across the intestinal wall. CD
destroys these enzymes, and even thought the intestines heal, the regrowth
of enzyme producing cells may take years to come up to the levels that were
present prior to CD.

1 person sent me a great deal of history, etc., that was very informative
but too much to share in a summary. Thank you for the info.

Thanks, - Sharon in Kansas
