thank you everyone who responded. it has been very helpful. i will try to summarize as briefly as
possible, as i received many replies.
-first, i called ge health care , who make visipaque and they said it was gluten free. the imaging
center had said this iv solution was better tolerated by people with kidney problems but it was more
expensive.
-one of our list mates also mentioned visipaque was more expensive and may need your dr. to write
rx for it. my imaging center said i could just ask for it.
-most everyone had a positive experience with visipaque and the procedure.
-someone mentioned to check for allergenic status of the product.
-one person had a near death experience with visipaque but was not allergic to iodine. she received
benadryl and recovered. something else in iv must have triggered it.
- it was mentioned that the iodine may trigger a dh reaction. i must say i have dh and am
experiencing a breakout from something i tried about 3 weeks ago. it is starting to dry up. because
of this i am scheduling the iv for about a month from now to avoid any more blisters in case i still
have some residual gluten in me.
i feel like i will be getting the iv with the least reactions but untill i do it , i guess i wont know how it
will all work out. i can request benadryl to be on hand in case of a problem.
thanks again everyone. harriet
