Hello All,

THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of the kind, helpful suggestions. I received many personal reviews as well as tips and websites to visit for more information. All of these restaurants have websites. Just google them.
We have reservations at Sambuca, Candle 79 and Bistango. I plan to also try Risotteria and Peters'. I will summarize after we return from our trip.

  Thanks again,

  Beth

First, the helpful websites with reviews, photos and lists of restaurants:

  Then, the personal experiences:

  Peters'

"For burgers, fries, wings, chicken fingers, and such. They also make gf pancakes (probably from a readily available mix). I prefer it to Bloom's on just about every count. It's sort of convenient to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other area museums--you can take a bus between the restaurant and the museum(s)."

  Bistango

"A wonderful Italian restaurant with a gluten free menu and the willingess to make almost anything on the menu gluten free as well. They are located around 29th and 3rd. The food is great and the ownwer and staff exceptionally understanding of celiac and very accommodating. They are part of the 'Gluten free restaurant awareness program', which you should check out on the web."

  Risotteria

"I was so thunderstruck by how AMAZING the food was at the Risotteria that I ate there three times in a row and ordered every single gluten-free thing on the menu (which looked quite funny when they delivered 2 appetizers, several entrees and several desserts each time to my 100 pound 5'2" framed person :)

The breadsticks were indescribable. In my three years as a celiac I have never tasted anything even close to how good these were. A non-celiac member of our party announced that they were the best breadsticks he had ever eaten. We got them with a plate of assorted cheeses and dipped the breadsticks into the cheeses. Magnificent."

  Sambuca

"Sambuca is wonderful, but not close to your hotel. It is on Broadway
and 72nd. It is Italian and they serve family style. We held my
daughter's college graduation there - she picked it, and she is not
GF but everyone LOVED it. We ordered some regular and some GF
pastas."

  O'Lunney's

"O'Lunneys on 46 or 47 and Broadway. They opened a new restaurant 2 years ago on either of those streets OFF Broadway. They are an Irish pub and their wait persons know all about gluten free diets. Never got sick eating there and big selection. Reservations are expected for holidays and evenings".
