Dear Listserv,

I forwarded last week's post warning us to avoid Chili's to my brother-in-
law who is an attorney at Brinker International, the conglomerate that owns
Chili's, as well as On-the-Border (other chain that will not confirm gf
status of their food), Macaroni Grill and several others. Anyway, he
forwarded the listserv e-mail, along with mine saying what a bad public
relations move this was, to several people within Chili's. It looks as
though there is power in numbers. Here is their reply:

Dear Ms. Zelinski:
>
> Your posting on the [log in to unmask]
> <mailto:[log in to unmask]> website, regarding Gluten Free menu
> items at Chili's, was forwarded to me by another customer.
>
> We are equally concerned about your health and safety, as well as all of
> our customers. Our Quality Assurance Department is currently in the
> process of preparing a matrix of all our menu items to encompass the Top 8
> Food Allergens. There are several aspects in developing an allergen
> matrix that must be addressed to have an allergen program, which is
> meaningful, and provides the safest food for you. When completed, our
> program will not only include food manufacturing, but additional training
> and education for our cooks and servers.
>
> To answer your question specifically as to whether our Baby Back Ribs are
> Gluten Free. The ribs without any sauce/seasoning are Gluten Free, but
> wouldn't be very tasty. Unfortunately, the sauce/seasoning does contain
> some ingredients that are not Gluten Free.
>
> Ms. Zelinski, I want to assure you that we are committed to developing a
> Gluten free menu that you can count on to be complete and accurate. In
> the meantime, please contact Karen Doty, our Quality Assurance Manager, to
> discuss your dining options at Chili's. Karen may be reached at
> 972-980-9917.
>
> Sincerely,
