Author promoting celiac disease book with signing

Author Danna Korn will sign copies of her book "Kids with Celiac
Disease: A Family Guide to Raising Happy, Healthy, Gluten-Free Children"
(Woodbine House; $17.95) at 11 a.m. July 23 at the Springfield
Barnes & Noble bookstore, 3111 South Veterans Parkway.

Celiac disease is a digestive disorder affecting two million Americans
in which the body is intolerant of gluten, a protein found in wheat,
rye, barley and oats, and in any food made from those grains.

Removing gluten from the diet is the only known treatment for the
disease. Without treatment, it can cause serious problems,
such as damage to the central nervous system, osteoporosis and
even cancer.

Korn has a son who was diagnosed with the disease in 1991. She
founded a support group for families of children with celiac disease
and speaks nationally on the topic.

Korn's book covers topics ranging from medical issues to shopping,
food preparation and diet. It also contains an extensive resource
list for products and services.

In addition to her appearance at Barnes & Noble, Korn also will
present a cooking demonstration at 9 a.m. July 23 at Cub Foods,
3001 South Veterans Parkway.
